cafe brenda organic the good earth vegetarian
I’d like to express my love for the variety of great places in Minneapolis that are welcoming to vegetarians and the food-conscious. Yes, I’ve outed myself—I don’t eat meat of the mammal variety.
One of my all-time favorites is The Good Earth at the Galleria in Edina. The food is always good, and the place is always great for a small family gathering. I’m a big fan of their fresh-squeezed fruit juices, especially “Strawberry Fields” (and no, it’s not only because I’m a big Fab Four fan). Whenever I go (which is probably monthly), I’m always a sucker for their vegetarian enchiladas and their unconventional Greek salad.
The meat-eaters I associate with always find something tasty to eat at the Earth too; it’s one of those restaurants that you’ll leave feeling good about yourself and your food choices (unlike, say, that time at Taste of Minnesota when you ate 3 helpings of cheese curds).

minnesota historical society vatican splendors
Yesterday, I caught the “Vatican Splendors” exhibit at the Minnesota History Center. The place was packing the visitors in, and I can see why; items never-before-seen by non-Vatican inhabiting (or even visiting) eyes were on view. As a born and raised Lutheran, I wasn’t privy to all of the cues and histories wrapped up in the exhibited splendors, but the curators did a very good job of detailing the treasure not only for those in-the-know but also for those (like me) who didn’t have a clue.
My favorite things on display were: Michelangelo’s compass—the one he used to help paint the Sistine Chapel, the crown that Napoleon made for Pope Pius VII –the one that was purposefully too small for Pius’ head and that included jewels that Napoleon’s army stole from the Vatican, and the fancy duds worn by various Popes throughout the ages—I’ve decided that iconoclasm just isn’t that pretty.

restaurantmax the hotel minneapolis
Here’s how a lunch at restaurant Max, located in The Hotel Minneapolis, turns into a two-hour affair (between the food, my taste buds and my stomach).

La Belle Vie fancy pants French cuisine
Last night I took delight in the tasting menu at La Belle Vie [labellevie.us]. It made me believe that it is, indeed, a beautiful life.

Now this twenty-something with a taste for the divey and the refined is back in the Midwest and living it up in her favorite city, experiencing Minneapolis’ local color, high culture, great eats and good times.
